John Keells Group was the principal sponsor for the inaugural Mark Bostock Memorial Trophy held at the picturesque Victoria Golf and Country Resort over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of May 2008.
Mark Bostock, former Chairman John Keells, was the passion and driving force behind the golf course development at Victoria. This Tournament was held in his memory.
Over 70 players teed off with the majority playing in the morning; scores were eagerly awaited by midday. Victoria player and local business magnate Ravi Mediwaka was the early leader in the clubhouse with a net stableford score of 36, easily overtaking the others who scored in the low thirties. Ravi Mediwaka, looked to have swept the board until Chris Holloway playing off a handicap of 13 returned a magnificent net stableford score of 42 to topple Ravi’s supremacy. His gross score of 80 (7 over par)included birdies on the 5th and 18th, and 7 pars. It was easily the best score of the day with only Roland Davies coming close with a net 37.
“It was the best round of golf I ever played in my life” said an euphoric Chris Holloway as he claimed the inaugural Mark Bostock Memorial Trophy played in memory of his beloved uncle.
